S.M. Krishna said Sunday his government supports efforts to get the Taleban to disarm, but that any foreign interference in the process would be “detrimental both for its success and for the future of a democratic, stable, pluralistic and prosperous Afghanistan.” The comments appeared directed at India’s archrival Pakistan, where some of the Taleban’s top leadership is believed to be hiding. A delegation from an Afghan peace group recently traveled to Pakistan to discuss ways to bring the Taleban to the negotiating table.
Krishna spoke at a news conference with his Afghan counterpart, Zalmai Rassoul.
