A Yemeni official, who preferred anonymity, told the Ministry of Defense website: “This news is completely baseless. It is part of a malicious campaign to discredit Yemen … Yemen is committed to its war on terrorism and it rejects any foreign forces on its soil. The fight against terrorism on the Yemeni soil is solely carried out by Yemeni forces, which are able to weed out terrorists.”
In another development, a senior security official in the southern province of Hadramout on Monday escaped an assassination attempt in Mukalla, a local source said.
The official was on his way to work when a device exploded. The man was unhurt but the explosion shattered his car's windows. The terrorist attack is the second in the province in less than a week and, according to experts, has all the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda.
