The school previously named the Royal International School was ordered closed by the Ministry of Education in December for working without a proper license. The school was renamed International Luxury and continued courses after winning its case against the ministry in appeal. But it recently closed down its secondary level and asked students to leave, including those who were near graduation and headed for university.
Arab News tried to contact the management of the school, but no one was willing to comment.
A number of the secondary students said it was difficult for them to find new schools now that the first semester is about to end. Those of them who were able to find new schools said it was difficult for them to compensate for the classes they missed specially in important subjects such as mathematics, chemistry and physics.
“My new school asked me to sign a pledge that my grades will not be less than 80 percent in the final exam of the first semester,” said Salim Khalifa, a former student of the International Luxury who said he was lucky to find a seat in another school. “Many of us could not find schools to join. This is a real tragedy for them.”
Saeed Al-Obaidi, another student in his final secondary school year, said he was not able so far to find a substitute school.  “I am sitting idle at home now. The decision of the school to shut down its secondary branch has actually complicated my life,” he said.
Al-Obaidi said he had regained the fees he had paid to the International Luxury School but was so far unable to find a school for himself.
