Prince Turki’s comment came after Ibrahim Al-Zahrani, the Saudi youth who developed the system, briefed the prince on his invention, which has been found effective in following floods in wadis and other low-lying areas in various parts of the Kingdom after rains.
Hussein Al-Qahtani, spokesman for the presidency, said the prince commended the invention and asked the authorities to apply the system to encourage other Saudis to make scientific inventions.
The new flood warning system has inter-connected devices; one will be placed in flood paths or wadis, about 40 km outside the city while the other in a monitoring room inside the city. The first device will transfer all information related to floods, such as its strength, speed and direction to the second one.
The first device is also designed to inform officials in the monitoring room how much time the flood would take to reach the city. “The data that appears on the screen of the second device should be passed to the concerned authorities to take action,” he said.
