Zardari appoints new governor

Kausar, a prominent lawyer and brother of internationally acclaimed Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz, will replace Awais Ahmad Ghani. He will take up his new post on Thursday, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said. Kausar is the second governor appointed in a month. On Jan. 11, Zardari appointed former Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa as governor of Punjab province to replace assassinated Gov. Salman Taseer.
Kausar served as speaker of the NWFP Assembly from 1988 to 1990. After getting re-elected in 1990, we was elected deputy leader of opposition from 1990 to 1993. In 1994 he was elected as a member of the Senate.
A close associate of the PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, and as a member of PPP "Think Tank" committee and Central Executive Committee, Syed Masood Kausar has been an influential figure within PPP.
Syed Masood Kausar has also a very outstanding career in the law profession. He has appeared before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan in different important cases of eminence. He was elected President of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association in 1984 and has also been an honorary visiting Professor of law at the University Law College Peshawar.
