It said it would help issue identity cards for them and civil cards for children over 15 after the civil unrest in Cairo.
Chairman of the society Dr. Tawfiq Al-Suwailam said all those who have arrived were recognized by their fathers, registered both at the ministries of interior and foreign affairs and did not have any pending issues.
He was, however, contradicted by the society’s director of social affairs Sulaiman Al-Battah, who said there were families that had outstanding issues. He said the society would correct the status of some of them by issuing them with national IDs. "Most of them have pending issues. Many of the fathers were dead or ill," he said.
Awasir voluntarily assists needy Saudis stranded abroad for various reasons and helps bring them back to the Kingdom by coordinating with government departments and families. It also pays monthly financial assistance to help them live decently.
Adviser to the society Dr. Ali Al-Hanaki told Arab News that most stranded Saudi families were in Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Yemen, Bahrain and Kuwait in addition to some European countries, America and Canada. “Most of them suffer because of carelessness, negligence, separation from the mother, imprisonment, death or sickness," Al-Hanaki said.
He said most of these cases resulted from Saudis marrying foreign women when on vacation abroad. Many of them divorce their wives before going back home.
