Prince Khaled bin Saud, undersecretary at the ministry said the plane was sent on the instructions of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
“It is expected that the plane will return to King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh Wednesday morning,” Prince Khaled said.
He said the ministry has set up an emergency office to take care of Saudi citizens in Libya.
In another development, the Saudi Consulate in New Zealand said no Saudi was affected by the earthquake that hit Christchurch, the second largest city in New Zealand.
“We have sent a team to Christchurch to follow the situation of Saudis in the city following the earthquake,” the consulate said. The consulate has issued several telephone numbers to contact them in New Zealand: 006499127808, 006499127809 and 006499127810.
