“The work of the committee has greatly reduced the number of real estate cases that are in the courts,” said an official source, adding that the committee has settled 3,192 cases since the beginning of this year.
He also said that the committee settled 10,372 cases in 2009 and 10,926 cases in 2010.
Seventy-two percent of cases involved tenants who failed to vacate accommodation after failing to pay their rent.
“The committee was able to end the ploy that tenants often pursue by saying they need more time to look for alternative accommodation,” said the official.
He also denied recent press reports that Jeddah courts are presently considering more than 22,000 cases involving outstanding rent totaling millions of riyals.
“Presently there are only 300 cases involving outstanding payments of rent and 2,008 cases relating to tenants not evacuating their accommodation pending before the Jeddah courts. These reports showing higher numbers are totally untrue,” the official said, adding that newspapers should verify the accuracy of their information and statistics from responsible sources before publishing them.
