“The project — called “Loads of Hope” — has been organized by detergent company Tide, which has called for action to assist people during natural disasters by establishing facilities to provide clean clothes, which is a basic necessity,” said Tide representative Al-Hasan Al-Dabbagh.
“In times of crisis, we feel it is our responsibility to help the community when it needs support the most and we do this with what we do best — that is by providing clean clothes to all those affected by this disaster in the hope of helping our society take one step closer to returning back to normal life,” he added.
Since the establishment of the project early last week, about 9.9 tons of clothes have been washed to date.
More than 12,000 people have visited the centers and 3.6 tons of clothes have been donated.
The families who have benefited from these facilities feel thrilled. “I feel blessed that so many volunteers have shown up to offer their help at my doorstep after the floods. There were those who came with food baskets, others who offered to clean my house and now there is this campaign to wash clothes,” said Um Yahya, 47.
“I’ve sent all my clothes and belongings, aside from the bedding, that were damaged by the floods and sewage water that came into my house,” she added.
