The experienced Razzaq told reporters on the sidelines of
a training session here at the P Sara Oval that he is committed to the team's
cause through whatever role he can play during the global tournament.
"I have the confidence and whenever the team's need
me I'll be there," said Razzaq, who has become a talking point among the
Pakistani media covering the World Cup here because of the team management's
decision to send him at number eight.
Razzaq has not impressed mush in his role as a new-ball
bowler and at number eight doesn't get enough chance to make his presence felt
with the bat.
Does he wish to get promoted up the order?
"Off course everybody wants to spend as much time as
possible on the crease," he said. "It's my wish to play up the order
but right now the sort of combination we have the team management has taken the
right decision."
Razzaq, 31, is confident that he can silence his critics,
the moment he gets a chance to prove his worth as a late-order pinch-hitter.
"Whenever I get the chance I will show them my batting," he stressed.
The Lahore-born player said that he is trying all his
experience as an international cricket in a bid to bowl impressively with the
new ball on what are quite batting-friendly wickets in Sri Lanka.
"The conditions are not easy for fast bowlers
here," he said. "But if you use your experience then there is a
chance. For us, the conditions are not really tough either because it's quite
similar to what we have at home."
Pakistan will play Canada on Thursday after a four-day
break. They will later meet New Zealand on March 8, Zimbabwe on March 14 and
Australia five days later.
Razzaq is pleased with the long breaks between World Cup
matches. "The ICC has made a good schedule for the World Cup because there
is ample time to recover between matches," he said.
Razzaq said that Pakistan will go all out to win their
remaining matches in a bid to top Group A. "The real crunch games will
start with the quarterfinals so we want to begin that stage with some solid
results in the group stages."
