Areas such as Umm Al Quwain, Dibba, Kalba, Fujairah, Dadna and Khorfakkan are expected to benefit for the new schemes.
UAE citizens and residents and in the region praised the leader’s announcement.
State news agency WAM said the move followed a recent tour of the region by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Abdullah Rashid, a resident of Dadna, voiced happiness about the announcement.
“I wish the project will materialize soon so that it will help improve our cultivations.”
Ahmed A, a resident of Khorfakkan, described the new project as a blessing for residents as it would ensure year-round electricity and water supplies.
According to WAM, the UAE President directed the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) to provide the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) with around 1,300 megawatts (MW) of power to meet projected demand.
A 100-km main water pipeline is to be built from Kalba to Dibba, passing through the cities of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, at a cost of AED900 million. It will supply 23 million imperial gallons per day.
Another 60-km pipeline, costing AED300 million, is being planned to supply 18 imperial gallons (per day to Umm Al Qaiwain.
The new directives also provide for the supply of 700MW electricity to Sharjah by ADWEA.
A transmission station, with a capacity of 400 KV, is being planned in Sharjah at cost of AED500 million.
Water supplies to Sharjah are also set for major boost under the new schemes.
Sheikh Khalifa had earlier ordered the construction of a 36-km main pipeline, costing AED158 million, to supply water to Ra’s Al Khaimah, which s is expected to be operational by October 2011.
The project announcements came as Reuters reported that a range of supermarkets in the UAE had agreed with the economy ministry to cut their prices for food and other essential commodity items by up to 40 percent for one month.
