Judge Manuela Fernandez de Prado found Idoia Mendizabal and Asier Arzalluz Goni guilty of attempting to assassinate Esther Cabezudo, deputy mayor of the northern town of Portugalete.
Reading the sentence Friday, Fernandez de Prado said the two were involved in placing a bomb that exploded along Cabezudo’s route to work on Feb. 28, 2002.
Sentences of hundreds of years are not uncommon in trials of ETA members in Spain, although the maximum time a person can serve for terrorism convictions is 40 years.
ETA has killed more than 825 people since the late 1960s in a violent campaign for an independent Basque state.
