The Gemalto Protiva Smart Badge Holder is a Bluetooth enabled badge reader that grants individual access to networks, applications and data through wireless connectivity. Working with PCs, the Smart Badge Holder replaces USB connected card readers to access enterprise resources securely using a smart ID Badge. The user simply inserts his badge into the Smart Badge Holder and carries it with him. Whenever the user is within the Bluetooth communication range of his PC, the Smart Badge Holder connects automatically, eliminating the need to physically insert a badge into a reader or remove it from the reader when leaving the PC. The Smart Badge Holder works as easily as a Bluetooth headset with mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets. By simply inserting their badges into the wireless Smart Badge Holders, corporate users will be able to access their encrypted e-mails and sign documents electronically from their smartphones in the same way they do on a desktop PC.

Imagine running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art like Rocky Balboa and being greeted by an alien creature that is visible only through your smart phone. The alien will be joined by a giant squid floating above a waterfall, a faceted rainbow above the Delaware River and 22 other pieces of virtual art throughout the city when the VPAP@PIFA Augmented Reality exhibit opens on April 7 as part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). The exhibit can be viewed via a free smart phone app that overlays 3-D images on top of real-time screen visuals as seen through the smart phone's camera lens. Augmented Reality (AR) interlaces the physical real-world environment with virtual computer-generated imagery in real-time. The Virtual Public Art Project (VPAP) is an augmented reality platform for the public display of digital works of art and the first mobile augmented reality outdoor art experience of its kind. VPAP merges the real-world physical environment of public spaces around the world with site-specific virtual sculptures that can only be viewed in-the-round using either an iPhone or an Android phone when the viewer is at the sculpture's real-world location.
