The Shoura Council delegation headed by Al-Kurdi met members of the US Congress on Tuesday and discussed ways and means of improving parliamentary relations between the two bodies.
Besides Al-Kurdi, members of the delegation included Saud Al-Subaie, Abdullah Al-Bukhari, Mohammed Al-Gwaihis, Khalifa Al-Dosary, Mazen Al-Hayat and the council's consultant Mai Al-Essa, as well as media and administrative officials of the council.
During the meeting Al-Kurdi told Congressmen that Saudi Arabia is a country that has created a conducive environment for foreign investments because of its various infrastructure development projects spearheaded by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
“Since 1993, the country has been witnessing a series of social, economic and cultural reforms to suit the changing needs of the local population,” he said, pointing out that Saudi students are given scholarships to pursue their studies in prestigious universities throughout the world.
“We have also taken productive measures in the field of science, education and research and the economic efforts are geared to provide more employment opportunities for the local youths.”
Mohammed Al-Gwaihis said Saudi Arabia was one of the countries affected by terror. He added that under the able leadership of King Abdullah, the country was able to combat terror successfully with public support.
He also pointed out that the Arab-Israeli conflict is a cause for concern in the region. “We are concerned about the rights and privileges of the people of Palestine,” he said, noting that stability is vital for peace in the region.
The visiting team also held discussions with Saudi Ambassador in Washington Adel Al-Jubeir on Monday.
During the meeting Al-Jubeir explained the significance of the age-old friendship between the US and the Kingdom.
