But a Turkish Foreign Ministry official said Monday there was no official application to open a Taleban office in Turkey and that there were no immediate plans to host Afghan peace talks. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with ministry regulations.
Arsala Rahmani, a member of the council set up by the Afghan government to work toward a political solution to the insurgency, says Turkey is making plans for the office but it will take time to work out.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to arrive in Turkey late Monday, and Afghanistan is expected to be high on the agenda of talks.
