Social worker for the committee Kholoud Murtada revealed that most of the victims were women followed by children. She said accommodation was provided for them whether the abuse was physical, sexual, psychological or verbal.
“We accommodate male children up to 18 and females of all ages,” she said, adding that they all have a God-given right to live in dignity and honor.
Murtada said the committee was able to resolve 38 of these cases through reconciliation while 40 of them dropped their cases against their families.
She said the working strategy of the committee is to reconcile victims with their families in a cordial and friendly manner.
“We also use social and psychological rehabilitation and provide the victims with accommodation in two-room apartments for three months, which may be extended if their problems were not solved,” she said.
Murtada said this accommodation period might extend to a year or more, especially if the case is being looked at by Shariah courts.
“We try to resolve cases of family violence through coordination with a number of bodies, including the governorate if necessary,” she said.
