The Foreign Office says that unless they have a pressing need to remain in the country, Britons should get out while commercial flights are still available as the security situation in Syria is “rapidly” deteriorating.
It says the British Embassy there will likely not be able to provide normal consular service for long.
Foreign Secretary William Hague condemned the latest crackdown by Syrian security forces Sunday. He called on authorities to “respond to the legitimate demands of the Syrian people.” Security forces fired on funeral processions Saturday, one day after the bloodiest crackdown so far in the uprising against President Bashar Assad.
