The ruling party has blamed the coalition opposition, Joint Parties Meeting, of setting off the latest escalation of violence in the capital in order to stymie the deal.
"They schemed to circumvent the Gulf initiative when they incited their supporters to attack the (pro-government) protesters in Al-Thura city and torching people's cars and tents in a blatant crime that left 300 injuries," a statement on the party's website said.
"Despite their acceptance of the initiative which stipulates calm, they incited their supporters to step up their violent attacks on men, women and government facilities," the statement added.
President Ali Abdullah Saleh's party also accused the opposition of working with defected military generals to destabilize the country.
"The opposition is working in harmony with the defected leader of the First Army Division, Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmer, to spark violence in the country and derail the Gulf deal," the statement said.
However, the opposition has signaled that it could change its mind about signing the Gulf deal if the killing of protesters went unabated.
"If the brothers and friends can't protect the peaceful protesters in Yemen, we will be obliged to not proceed with the deal. All indications show that the regime wants to employ the deal to shed more blood," said the statement. "The regime is determined to cause bloodshed to undermine the Gulf efforts. It (the regime) is known for maneuvering, deviousness and spilling blood to derail the agreement."
Pro-democracy protesters in the capital said that the regime has gone too far in killing protesters because it knows the Gulf deal will get him off the hook.
Khaled Al-Ansi, a young protest leader, said: "The regime has excessively committed killings against protesters because it is sure that in the end a political deal will give it an exit from the country without prosecution"
Al-Ansi accused the Republican Guard and the government's secret police of kidnapping 80 injured protesters from the scene of the attack.
