Deputy Minister of Electricity and Chairman of Board of Saudi Electricity Company Saleh Al-Awaji, Director-General of the Electricity Cogeneration Regulatory Authority Fayez Al-Jabri along with director-general of the German economic delegation in the Kingdom Andreas Hergenroether and 10 German experts in energy efficiency will attend the forum.
“It may look ironic to talk energy efficiency and saving in an energy-rich country like Saudi Arabia, but experts predict a constant rise in energy consumption and cost in the Kingdom,” said Florian Mader, the officer of public relation at German economic delegation told Arab News.
“Last year there was an increase of 9 percent (in energy consumption) over the year earlier, and air-conditioning in the summertime alone currently causes a consumption of 3 gigawatts per year," he said. "The current annual energy consumption of 30 gigawatts is poised to double to around 60 to 70 in 2020."
