Joyce opened the 10th with a double off Fernando Rodney (0-1). After Ben Zobrist lined out and Casey Kotchman moved Joyce to third with a grounder, Rodney threw a 1-2 pitch into the dirt that eluded catcher Hank Conger .
Tampa Bay’s James Shields took a shutout into the ninth before giving up a double to Torii Hunter to open the inning. Kyle Farnsworth came in and Hunter later scored to tie it at 1 on Howie Kendrick’s grounder.
Farnsworth had converted all five of his previous save opportunities this season.
Joyce also homered for the Rays, who have six of seven. Joel Peralta (1-0) struck out during a perfect 10th.
Rangers 11 Athletics 2: In Oakland, California: Colby Lewis pitched eight strong innings, Texas hit three home runs, including back-to-back shots by Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli in the fourth, and the Rangers beat the Athletics.
Michael Young hit his first homer of the season as the Rangers tagged A’s starter Brett Anderson (2-2) for seven runs in five innings while snapping a two-game losing streak.
Lewis (2-3) allowed six hits with a season-high six strikeouts to win for the first time since April 2. The right-hander had lost his previous three starts while getting one run or fewer of support.
Kurt Suzuki and Josh Willingham homered for Oakland, which failed in its attempt to get above .500 for only the second time this season.
Yankees 5 Blue Jays 4: In New York, Eric Chavez drove in a run and broke up a potential double play that helped lead to three more, making the most of a spot start and sending the Yankees to a victory over the Blue Jays.
Derek Jeter hit a sacrifice fly, and Curtis Granderson , Russell Martin and Brett Gardner also drove in runs for the Yankees, who played small ball to perfection against Toronto.
A.J. Burnett (4-1) scrapped his way through six innings for New York, despite giving up nine hits and having to wiggle his way out of a jam in just about every one of them.
Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth for his ninth save.
Kyle Drabek (2-1) took the loss.
Orioles 6 White Sox 2: In Chicago, Robert Andino homered and reliever Mike Gonzalez doused a no-out bases-loaded situation as Baltimore Orioles sent Chicago to its 14th loss in 17 games.
Leading 2-1, the Orioles tacked on four runs in the eighth, an inning featuring a passed ball and error on Chicago catcher A.J. Pierzynski and a two-run single by Vladimir Guerrero .
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen missed the game, completing his two-game suspension for tweeting comments about an umpire after he was ejected three nights earlier in New York. Bench coach Joey Cora ran the team for the second straight game.
Royals 11 Twins 2: In Kansas City, Missouri, Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer in an eight-run eighth inning and rookie right-hander Nate Adcock picked up his first big league victory .
The Royals sent 12 men to the plate in the eighth and scored all eight runs after two outs. Six of the runs were unearned after an error by Twins first baseman Justin Morneau .
Adcock (1-0), a Rule 5 pick from the Pittsburgh Pirates who had never pitched above Class Abefore this season, worked a scoreless seventh.
Mariners 2 Red Sox 0: In Boston, Doug Fister worked out of trouble three times in 5 2-3 scoreless innings and the Seattle’s bullpen was solid again in the team’s fifth straight win.
Boston lost for the fourth time in five games after winning eight of nine.
Seattle’s Milton Bradley had an RBI double before being ejected a few minutes later and the Mariners’ bullpen pitched the final 3 1/3 innings. Seattle’s pen has held opponents scoreless for the last 13 1-3 innings.
Indians 3 Tigers 2: In Cleveland, Orlando Cabrera lined an RBI single in the 13th inning that gave the Cleveland its 12th straight home win.
A day after Carlos Santana hit a game-winning grand slam in the ninth, the Indians went extra innings to extend their best home streak since a 13-game stretch in 1996. Cabrera singled to deep center with the bases loaded and one out.
Cleveland won its fifth in a row and finished with its best April record ever at 18-8. Detroit lost its fifth straight game.
