“The killing of Bin Laden comes as part of the international
anti-terrorism campaign, while his absence will contribute to the ending of the
West’s unjust campaign against Islam,” an official spokesman was quoted as
saying by the state-run Petra news agency.
“Jordan looks forward to seeing an end to terrorism which did
not help resolve Arab issues, foremost the Palestinian issue,” the unidentified
official said in the first official reaction to Bin Laden’s death.
“The world community should now work positively to resolve
the Palestinian question which is being used as a pretext for Al-Qaeda’s
terrorist operations, so that an independent Palestinian state can be set up
with East Jerusalem as its capital and the right of Palestinian refugees to
return to their homes be recognized,” he added.
Jordan has been involved in intelligence cooperation with
the United States to hunt Al-Qaeda leaders.
A senior Jordanian intelligence officer was killed last year
along with seven CIA personnel in a suicide bombing by a Jordanian doctor at a
forward US base in Khost, East Afghanistan.
