The 37-year-old Radcliffe had been set to run in the 10-kilometer Great Manchester Run on May 15 but says she is not ready to compete.
Radcliffe’s last race was the 2009 New York Marathon. She then took time off to prepare for the birth of her second child, Raphael.
Radcliffe says “frustrated as I am, I know that the main focus for me is next year’s Olympic marathon and achieving a qualifying standard later this year.”
Radcliffe also says she is being particularly careful in her recovery because of possible complications with her asthma.
Injured Rudisha to miss Diamond League opener
Meantime, the IAAF says 800-meter world record-holder David Rudisha will miss this week’s season-opening, Diamond League race in Doha with a left foot injury.
Rudisha, the 2010 world athlete of the year, has been unable to train for the past week because of the injury but it is not considered serious and will not prevent him from racing in his other scheduled events.
Rudisha says through his management that he is “disappointed” not to race in the Doha Grand Prix.
The Kenyan’s physician described the injury as peritendinitis of the foot’s flexor muscles of the left lower leg, but added that there is “no injury of the ankle, no stress reaction/fracture, and no cartilage injury.”
