Taiwanese Vice Foreign Minister Shen Lyu-shun made the comment Monday after a lawmaker publicized a WHO document that categorized the island as a Chinese province.
Shen said Taiwan will still attend an annual meeting of WHO’s decision-making body as an observer later this month.
Taiwan and mainland China split amid civil war in 1949.
Beijing still claims the island as its territory and generally obstructs Taiwan’s efforts to participate in international organizations.
Taiwan became an observer in WHO’s decision-making body in 2009 after Beijing responded positively to Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou’s reconciliation efforts.
