On the basis of the initial investigations and legal proceedings, the Jazan court found Saudis Kurdi Ahmad Walid, a policeman, and Ibrahim Tarshi, and two Yemenis, Muhammad Ali Taher and Hadi Mubarak, guilty of the murder of Yemeni traveler Hamoud Qaid. They were also found guilty of the “harassment” of a woman in his family. They were also accused of wounding Adil Obaid and Sadiq Obaid.
The court handed Walid 14 years of hard labor and 3,000 lashes and Tarshi 12 years of hard labor and 2,500 lashes on the basis of the erroneous findings. Taher was sentenced to 11 years and 2,500 lashes and Mubarak was sentenced to seven years and 2,500 lashes. Taher and Mubarak were in the Kingdom illegally, Al-Watan daily reported on Sunday.
The governor’s order also included fair compensation to the four men. The two Yemenis’ documents are being processed because of their violation of the Kingdom’s residence regulations.
The Prosecutions and Investigations Commission (PIC) opened a second investigation of the case after new evidence surfaced, implicating some others in the case.
The special committee appointed by the PIC in collaboration with the police and the governor’s office found Hadi bin Hadi Al-Akhrash and his brother Dahal, two Yemenis, to be what the state now calls the real culprits. On the basis of the PIC report, Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif issued an order last year to reconsider the case.
The revised PIC report said Hadi was drunk when he shot Hamoud Qaid with a stolen gun. Dahal who was executed eight years ago in another murder case, Yahya Milhan and Darwesh Al-Mekhlafi were the others involved. Shortly before coming across the Yemeni family including a woman, the accused had bought some stolen guns and got drunk, the revised PIC report said.
It was the weapons used in the murder that led to the arrest of the real culprits. The gun was stolen from a Saudi’s house in Bish and investigators later established that the same gun was used in the murder.
