The Palestinian mayor of el-Mughayer village says a tire was burning inside the village mosque in an apparent attempt to set the entire building ablaze.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the graffiti read, “Price tag, Aley Ayin.” The term ‘price tag’ refers to a settler policy of revenge for Israeli government operations against settlers. Aley Ayin is a small, unauthorized settler outpost that was evacuated last week.
Mayor Faraj Al-Nassan says the villagers discovered the fire when they went to the mosque for morning prayers. He says prayer rugs were burned but the fire did not spread extensively.
