Police Deputy Inspector General Vivekanand says the insurgents blasted nearby roads before the attack to prevent police reinforcements from reaching the area in southern Chattisgargh state.
Vivekanand says the officers were searching Saturday for rebels after two deadly attacks Friday and Thursday. The militants allegedly blew up an anti-landmine vehicle and killed 10 security personnel Friday and sprayed a police camp with bullets that killed five officers Thursday.
Attacks over the past month have killed 35 officers. The rebels fight in several Indian states demanding more land for farmers and jobs for the poor.
