The result completed a miserable tournament for Grenada who
conceded 15 goals in three games, including Friday's 7-1 hammering from
Honduras.
Guatemala entered the game knowing they needed at least a
3-0 victory to make sure of a place in the last eight and they took care of
that with little trouble.
Joe de Aguila opened the scoring with a thundering strike
from 25 yards out in the 16th minute that whistled into the net.
Marco Pappa doubled the advantage with a relatively harmless
left-foot shot from distance that Grenada keeper Shemal Louison made a real
mess of.
Carlos Ruiz made it 3-0 in the 54th minute when Jairo
Arreloa drove a cross against the bar and Carlos Ruiz pounced to knock home the
loose ball.
Five minutes later Carlos Gallardo burst into the area on
the left and his cool finish made it 4-0 and assured the Guatemalans of their
place in the knockout stages.
Ruiz went close to a fifth when he hit the post while at the
other end Clive Murray hit the side-netting as Grenada searched for a little
consolation at the end of a testing tournament for them.
