Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid said, "The victim reported the missing jewelry to police, who suspected an African overstayer hired as a domestic helper in the victim’s house. The maid confessed to police that she was part of a gang that committed the crime. She worked as an insider in the house and led the gang to the jewelry. She then acted as if she was not connected to the crime."
The maid led police to the gang's hideout. Police arrested nine people who were connected to the crime. They were all from the same nationality. Police recovered the missing jewelry from the gang's hideout and are still investigating the case.
In related news, police released an Indian national who was arrested for the alleged theft of SR176,000 from a private company. Al-Juaid said that the man claimed he was robbed when he went to deposit the amount at the bank. The company accused the man of stealing the money. After his arrest and investigation, police did not find any evidence that linked the man with the missing amount.
In another report, police recently arrested a Pakistani national for stealing cell phones from Balad district. The Pakistani man took advantage of the absence of the shop owner to go inside and attempted to steal the cell phones. The owner returned and caught the man red-handed. He handed him over to authorities.
