The team will study and develop mountaineering as part of national tourism promotion.
Prince Bandar bin Khaled will be head of the team.
Other team members are mountaineer Farouk Al-Zoman, Capt. Muhammad Al-Sharif of the Interior Ministry, Jayed Al-Otaiby of the Presidency of Youth Welfare, Director General of SCTA’s tourism products and programs Hamad Al-Asheikh and director of the SCTA’s mountaineering project Hatem Al-Ahmadi.
A specialist tour guide is also part of the team, Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
Prince Bandar was the first Saudi to climb the Winson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica in 2008. The same year he scaled Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.
He has also scaled a number of mountains in the world.
Zoman is the first Saudi to reach the top of the Mt. Everest on May 21, 2008. He also has climbed many challenging peaks in the US, Canada, Oman and France.
The team will lay down plans to develop and popularize the mountaineering culture and organize trips.
It will hold forums and training programs on mountaineering and take steps to issue licenses to establishments working in the field.
It will also identify problems related to the development of the sport.
Prince Bandar will have the authority to convene meetings, assign duties, add and replace present members and present reports and recommendations to Prince Sultan.
