Election officials have said that 5,609 candidates have registered to contest half of the seats in the country's municipal councils.
The spokesman for the election committee, Jidaie Al-Qahtani, said Friday the scrutiny of candidates would take place through Monday.
The final lists of candidates will be published on July 4. He said candidates have six days to withdraw their candidacy starting Saturday
The spokesman said July 27 was the last day for any objections to the names of voters contained in the lists, which were published at balloting centers early last week. “
The final lists of eligible voters will be announced on July 28,” he said.
Al-Qahtani said objections with proof of reasons should be handed over to the chairman of the scrutiny committee in each constituency.
He said if there were any allegations of a criminal nature, they would be conveyed to the relevant departments.
Meanwhile, chairman of the local election committee in Makkah, Mayor Osama Al-Bar, said objections should be submitted to the scrutiny committee at the headquarters of the municipality.
Chairman of the media committee, Osman Bakr Mali, said candidates may submit their requests for licenses to start promotional campaigns Saturday.
He said these campaigns should be in the constituencies of the candidates.
