He was speaking at the first meeting of the recently constituted National Architectural Heritage Center’s steering committee in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
The center falls under the SCTA’s responsibility and has been established with the aim of preserving the Kingdom’s architectural heritage.
It will also conduct detailed studies on the country’s architectural heritage so that researchers inside and outside the Kingdom can make use of them, besides exploring ways to make heritage buildings economically viable.
The center will also handle the SCTA’s activities for the promotion of architectural heritage. In addition to serving as a house of expertise on heritage matters, the center will also protect, register and document all items of architectural heritage spread across the country.
It will also promote social awareness about the value of heritage buildings, especially to people who own or live in them, in addition to attracting tourists to them.
“The center will preserve architectural heritage in all parts of the Kingdom and make them a part of people's lives,” the prince said.
“Our activities include forming heritage villages in such a way that the architectural heritage becomes part of indigenous life and not of history,” the prince said, highlighting the importance of citizens preserving and looking after heritage buildings.
