Lee (9-6) gave up a season-high seven runs — six earned — and 10 hits in 7 1-3 innings. He walked none and struck out nine.
The left-hander, who went 5-0 with an 0.21 ERA in five June starts, had not lost since May 31 at Washington and came in having pitched three consecutive shutouts. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 34 before giving up a run in the third.
In Anaheim, California, Russell Branyan hit a tiebreaking two-run homer for the Angels in the seventh inning, and Ervin Santana pitched into the eighth for his first victory in over a month.
Santana (4-8) allowed a run and six hits in 7 2-3 innings. Scott Downs got the last out of the eighth and rookie Jordan Walden pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save in 25 chances.
Chad Billingsley (7-7) gave up three runs and three hits in eight innings for the Dodgers.
In Arlington, Texas, Logan Morrison hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning and Florida posted a winning road trip under 80-year-old interim manager Jack McKeon.
Rangers starter C.J. Wilson, picked as an All-Star by his manager earlier in the day, struck out nine but left with one out in the eighth and the tying run at third base. Florida got even and went ahead against three relievers.
The Marlins, last in the NL East, won two of three in the series to wrap up a 5-4 trip. They are 6-6 overall since McKeon became their manager again after Edwin Rodriguez resigned.
In Houston, Josh Beckett pitched a gem and Boston scored the go-ahead run on a walk by Mark Melancon in the ninth inning to secure a series sweep.
Beckett (7-3) allowed five hits, a run and no walks while striking out a season-high 11 in eight innings.
Drew Sutton hit for Beckett to open the ninth and drew a one-out walk. Jacoby Ellsbury followed with a single to right before Dustin Pedroia grounded into a forceout to leave runners at the corners.
In Cincinnati, Edgar Renteria hit his first homer since his World Series MVP performance, helping the Reds break out of their offensive slump and beat Cleveland, their only win of the season against their intrastate rival.
Chris Heisey also homered off Mitch Talbot (2-5), who has struggled since returning from a sore elbow. The Reds piled up six runs and 10 hits in his four innings.
In St. Petersburg, Florida, Johnny Damon drove in four runs, Jeremy Hellickson pitched into the eighth inning to stop a personal four-game losing streak and Tampa Bay beat St. Louis.
Hellickson (8-7) allowed three runs and six hits in 7 1-3 innings. The Rays had been outscored 20-1 during the right-hander’s skid.
Kyle Farnsworth pitched the final 1 2-3 innings for his 17th save.
In Detroit, Magglio Ordonez hit a go-ahead, two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning and the Tigers avoided a three-game sweep.
The Tigers fired pitching coach Rick Knapp after the game. Bullpen coach Jeff Jones was promoted to replace Knapp.
Rick Porcello (7-6) gave up three runs and five hits over seven innings in a much-needed performance for Detroit’s suddenly shaky rotation. He was effectively wild, becoming the fifth pitcher since 1919 to have three wild pitches and hit three batters in a game.
In Atlanta, Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, Nick Markakis had a career-high five hits and Baltimore ended its five-game skid.
Zach Britton gave up three runs in five-plus innings and hit his first career homer. Jim Johnson (5-1) gave up one run in two innings.
The Braves had their five-game winning streak snapped and were denied their third straight interleague sweep.
Kevin Gregg pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th save.
In Chicago, veteran Rodrigo Lopez allowed two hits in seven shutout innings and Aramis Ramirez homered as the Cubs beat the White Sox to salvage the finale of a three-game series at Wrigley Field.
The White Sox captured the season crosstown series 4-2 with both Cubs’ victories coming against Gavin Floyd . Floyd (6-8) yielded seven hits in seven innings Sunday, three in the Cubs’ three-run fourth inning.
In Minneapolis, Danny Valencia delivered another bases-loaded hit, a two-run single that capped a four-run seventh inning as the Twins rallied for a victory.
Valencia is 8 for 13 with the bases loaded this season.
Rene Tosoni homered and drove in three runs for Minnesota, which trailed Zack Greinke by 6-1 in the fourth inning. Jim Thome hit his 595th career homer for the Twins.
Mark Kotsay homered and drove in three runs for the Brewers, who lost for the fifth time in six games.
Kameron Loe (2-7) was the loser.
In Denver, Melky Cabrera homered twice and drove in five runs as the Kansas City Royals tied a team record with 12 extra-base hits and outslugged Carlos Gonzalez and the Colorado Rockies.
Gonzalez homered and tied a career high with six RBIs. But he left in the seventh inning after he ran into the center-field wall and injured his right wrist.
Cabrera and Eric Hosmer , who also homered, had four hits apiece as Kansas City ended a five-game losing streak. Mike Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur each got three of the Royals’ season-high 21 hits.
Kansas City tagged Jason Hammel (4-8) for six runs in 3 2-3 innings.
Blake Wood (4-0) got the win despite allowing three runs in 1 2-3 innings.
In Seattle, Blake Beavan pitched seven impressive innings of one-run ball in his major league debut, and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and scored twice for the Mariners.
Seattle took five of six against San Diego in interleague play.
Beavan (1-0) was starting in place of Erik Bedard , who went on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week with a sprained left knee.
Beavan allowed just three hits and struck out four. David Pauley pitched the eighth and All-Star Brandon League picked up his 22nd save in 25 chances in the ninth.
In New York, pinch-hitter Ronny Paulino came through with a tying single off Mariano Rivera , Jason Bay drove home the winning run in the 10th inning and the Mets ended the Yankees’ seven-game winning streak.
Playing without an ailing Jose Reyes, the Mets were shut down by Freddy Garcia for seven innings before rallying against Rivera in the ninth to avoid a Subway Series sweep at Citi Field.
Pinch-hitter Scott Hairston drew a leadoff walk from Luis Ayala (1-2) in the 10th and the Mets loaded the bases when Pena booted Daniel Murphy’s slow grounder with two outs.
In Oakland, California, Conor Jackson and Scott Sizemore each hit two-run homers and All-Star Gio Gonzalez struck out seven to lead the Athletics.
David DeJesus also drove in two runs for the A’s, who won for the fourth time in 11 games since a six-game winning streak ended.
Xavier Nady and Sean Burroughs drove in runs for the Diamondbacks, who lost their third consecutive series and have lost four of their last five games.
Gonzalez (8-5) allowed a run and walked three in seven innings.
In Washington, in the one NL game, Pittsburgh scored three in the first and five in the second, helping give Kevin Correia his 11th win of the season and earning a split in its four-game series with the Nationals.
Correia (11-6) allowed two runs and six hits over six innings to become the first Pirates pitcher to win 11 games before the All-Star break since Jim Bibby in 1980.
The Pirates battered Jason Marquis (7-3), who lost for the first time in eight starts. He lasted only 1 1-3 innings, allowing seven runs and eight hits as the Nationals dropped to 2-5 under manager Davey Johnson.
Jayson Werth left the game after getting hit on the left arm by a pitch in the sixth.
