The woman, identified as Shabana from Hyderabad, India, came to work for a family in the southern city of Abha. She said she ran away as members of the household mistreated her. She was caught by police and returned to the family.
After that incident, however, she claimed she was locked up in the flat and in desperation tied bedsheets into a rope to escape again. She said she fell as she tried to climb down, resulting in injuries to her back. She was admitted to Asir Central Hospital in Abha last month where she had surgery and is now recovering before she returns home.
Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, consul general of India in Jeddah, visited her to wish her a speedy recovery.
Shabana has two children back home living with her sister. She had major back surgery and is able to walk now with support.
