The camp in Djibo and Arbinda was held in coordination with the National Center to Combat Blindness in Ougadougou. IIROSA Secretary-General Adnan Khalil Basha said 150 eye operations were conducted to remove cataracts at the camp, the second of its kind in the region.
“This has helped protect the men and women who were operated on against imminent blindness and loss of eyesight,” Basha added.
He recalled that IIROSA had organized its first camp for eye surgery in Burkina Faso where 389 operations were carried out.
Basha said since its establishment, IIROSA has been giving special attention to combating blindness and restoring eyesight to people with vision impairments in a number of countries. “IIROSA has organized eye-surgery camps in Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Indonesia,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of the number of operations, the secretary-general said 774 were conducted in Sri Lanka, 476 in Nigeria, 500 in Indonesia and 539 in Burkina Faso.
In addition to conducting surgical operations, IIROSA's medical teams have also provided the patients with eye glasses and medicines required before and after surgery.
Basha revealed that the organization had extended medical equipment to a number of hospitals in Jeddah, including the General Eye Hospital, King Saud Hospital and the Chest Hospital.
“IIROSA has made available more than 32,000 kilograms of medicines and medical supplies to charity organizations in Makkah province and has contributed to the costs of medical operations for 1,378 patients in various parts of the Kingdom,” he added.
“Through its health services and programs, IIROSA established hospitals and health centers to provide medical treatment to the poor and needy patients. It also provides medical care to people injured in natural disasters and wars,” he said, adding that IIROSA also contributes to combating endemics and carries out health awareness programs.
Basha recalled that during the past decade, IIROSA has administered, operated and supported a large number of health projects in various countries of the world providing health-care assistance to more than 25 million patients.
“The organization has also executed a large number of health programs for the poor and needy people in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO),” he added.
Basha said at present, IIROSA has 32 fixed projects consisting of hospitals, health centers, clinics and pharmacies in addition to mobile projects consisting of medical caravans, mobile clinics, surgical camps and health-awareness programs.
Since its establishment, IIROSA executed 285 health projects and programs in 48 countries of Africa, Asia, Europe and South America providing medical treatment to more than 34 million patients.
