The suspects were brought in to re-enact their alleged criminal behavior. The re-enactment was recorded for police who studied the methods they used in committing the crimes. They were surprised at what they found. It took police officers two years to investigate and arrest the accused.
We appreciate police efforts in tracking criminals to keep our community safe and secure, but, frankly speaking, two years is a long time. During that period, the gang was allegedly able to commit 278 robberies in which they stole SR6 million in kind and cash.
Police say the gang employed innovative tactics, which hampered authorities’ efforts to nab them. Nevertheless, what I see is a law-enforcement system lacking adequate development and improvement.
People are frustrated at the slow response, and they have lost confidence in members of law-enforcement agencies.
Too many robbery incidents are written off as unresolved. In 54 incidents involving this gang of alleged “ali babas,” not one of them was actually reported by the victims at the times of the robberies. These victims believed only Allah will compensate them.
