Guillen and Victor Martinez had four RBIs apiece, while Ramon Santiago added three hits for Detroit. Rick Porcello (11-6) allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings, striking out six.
Tyler Chatwood (6-7) gave up six runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings for the Angels, who had won three straight and five of seven.
Martinez hit a one-out RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the sixth, and Guillen followed with his first triple since July 9, 2010.
In Oakland, California, Francisco Liriano rebounded from his worst start of the season to go seven innings, Michael Cuddyer hit his team-leading 16th homer of the season.
Trevor Plouffe scored the go-ahead run on a double play in the third and added a pair of RBI singles, and three other players had two hits apiece.
The Twins won for the third time in their last four games.
Josh Willingham homered twice but the A’s didn’t do much else and dropped their second straight.
Liriano (7-8) wasn’t sharp but did enough to beat the A’s for only the second time in nine career starts, finishing with four strikeouts and two walks.
In Seattle, Jeff Niemann allowed three hits and struck out a career-high 11 in 6 2-3 innings, and Tampa Bay supported him with an eight-run second inning.
Niemann (5-4) gave up a two-out single to rookie Dustin Ackley in the first, and singles to Adam Kennedy and Chone Figgins in the seventh. He has won his past four decisions.
Ben Zobrist hit his 14th home run, a two-run shot in the second. Over the past nine games, Zobrist has 15 hits in his past 37 at-bats (.405).
Casey Kotchman had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run.
In Toronto, J.P. Arencibia hit a three-run homer for Toronto, and Brett Cecil beat All-Star Alexi Ogando for the second straight start.
Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli homered for the Rangers, who lost for the third time in four games. But Cruz left in the fifth inning with tightness in his left quadriceps muscle.
Cecil (4-4) pitched a four-hitter in Toronto’s 3-0 victory at Arlington last Sunday and was sharp again in this one. The left-hander allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season.
In Cleveland, Jeff Francis pitched eight sharp innings and Melky Cabrera hit a grand slam.
Billy Butler went deep twice and Alex Gordon also connected for Kansas City, which has won seven of 10. Butler hit a two-run shot in the first and a solo drive in the eighth, giving him five long balls in a four-game homer streak.
Butler came to the plate right after Cabrera’s grand slam in the fourth, and Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco promptly threw the first pitch at his head. Players from both dugouts and bullpens came on the field, and Carrasco was ejected.
Francis (4-11) won for the first time since June 10. He allowed four hits, struck out six and walked one.
In Chicago, Gavin Floyd outpitched Tim Wakefield , and A.J. Pierzynski hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh.
Chicago’s seventh straight victory over Boston and 14th in the last 16 games between the teams denied the 44-year-old knuckleballing Wakefield his 200th career win.
Floyd (9-9) won his third straight start. He gave up a run and three hits in seven innings, including a homer to Jarrod Saltalamacchia , and ran his career record against the Red Sox to 6-0.
Wakefield (6-4) also allowed three hits in seven innings. But his wild pitch in the sixth helped set up the tying run on Paul Konerko’s sacrifice fly.
In New York, Jeremy Guthrie shut down the New York Yankees for seven innings, perhaps driving up his price in a trade, and the Baltimore Orioles got homers from Mark Reynolds and Derrek Lee .
Kevin Gregg held on in a shaky ninth, striking out Brett Gardner with runners at the corners to end it.
Reynolds and Lee each drove in two runs, lending some rare offensive support to the major league leader in losses. Guthrie (5-14) allowed just four hits, including Mark Teixeira’s solo homer, and walked three in one of his best outings during a frustrating season.
The right-hander outpitched A.J. Burnett (8-9) for his first win in four career starts at Yankee Stadium. Last-place Baltimore won for the second time in 11 road games, improving to 1-6 against New York this year, as Guthrie moved to 2-7 away from home.
