"The ministry is purchasing 300 ambulances for the third consecutive year, which would benefit patients and help medics reach those who need aid quickly," Deputy Health Minister for Executive Affairs Mansour Al-Hawasi said.
He added that the new fleet would cost SR73.19 million, while the 600 ambulances bought during the past two years had cost the government around SR121 million.
He said the ambulances would be distributed among hospitals and clinics based on need.
Al- Hawasi also explained that the ambulance service is considered one of the pillars of an integrated health system in the Kingdom.
"It helps the transfer of patients from one facility to another to ensure continuous treatment for them. The new ambulances are fully equipped with the state-of-the art facilities for patients in need of emergency treatment. We maintain international medical standards for all these vehicles to ensure the best health care for the people," the deputy minister said.
"We are developing all these facilities under the guidance of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to ensure proper health care in every part of the Kingdom," Al-Hawasi noted.
The deputy minister also signed two more contracts with local companies worth a total of SR129.42 million to commence new health projects in the Kingdom.
The projects included a staff compound at King Fahd Hospital in Tabuk for SR77.74 million and replacing old elevators with new ones in some hospitals for SR51.68 million.
