“Now with the development of new media and the revolutions in our region, everyone is keen on addressing these issues in his/her country but we do not hear about it a lot,” said the SJCUK President Prince Bader ibn Saud.
He added, this forum hence aims at opening the doors for media academics to exchange experiences with their peers who share similar interest. For the first time, he said, the event will allow media academics to discuss their point of views with media practitioners from various Arab countries.
The SJCUK has been holding various events throughout the year, however, what makes this forum special, said Prince Bader, is that it is developed from fruitful collaboration from more than 30 members in the club.
“Despite that it is a nonprofit organization, the members were always dedicated and excited to come up with new ideas. Each one of them will be taking a role to ensure the success of this forum which will be the conclusion for our activities in this year’s timetable,” he said.
Alongside the event, a book fair for Arabic publications will be held. “We wanted it to include even publishers in order to give the opportunity for all media people to gather and benefit.
According to Najwa Al-Said, SJCUK member and one of the event organizers, it is always hard to find papers written on media in the Arab region while studying. “But after this forum we are optimistic it will enrich our resources and would attract a lot of Arab academics to attend and would give birth to a new highly educated and professional social network,” said Al-Said.
The event will be in Arabic and will dedicate three sessions to print journalism, broadcast journalism, and online journalism. Journalism ethics, journalism, society and development, sports media and new media are the topics that are likely to be discussed. Each session will run for two hours. Participant will have 10 minutes to present his/her research, and five minutes have been set aside for discussion.
According to Al-Said they are still negotiating sponsorship. Awards, decided by the attendees’ votes, will be dedicated to the best three studies. Participation will be free of charge for postgraduates, and the attendance will cost £12.
