Defense attorney Kerry Cuccia says the arraignment for 30-year-old Jeremiah Wright has been postponed until Oct. 17, when the judge also will hear the psychiatrists’ testimony.
Cuccia won’t say why he requested the evaluation by psychiatrists or why Lafourche Parish Judge Hugh Larose decided to appoint them. He says he filed three sealed exhibits.
He says they deal with Wright’s current ability to help his defense, and not whether he was sane when 7-year-old Jori Lirette was killed Aug. 14. Wright is charged with first-degree murder.
Jori needed 24-hour care because of medical problems that included heart problems and cerebral palsy.
