Muhammad was the founder of Indian Islahi Center in Jeddah, which has been playing an important role in spreading the message of Islam among the Indian expatriate community since 1982.
The death of Muhammad, who had gone to Kerala on a long medical leave, shocked his friends as well as students. "His death is a big loss for the Keralite community in Jeddah," said V.P. Muhammad Ali, managing director of Jeddah National Hospital.
Abdul Kareem Sullami commended the late professor's contributions toward strengthening the Islahi Center using his academic expertise. "He was part and parcel of the center ever since its establishment."
Salah Karadan, former chairman of the Indian school managing committee, said he had lost a good friend and guide. "Prof. Muhammad had been playing a vital role in organizing Haj caravans of the Islahi center every year in a successful manner," said Karadan.
Bashir Vallikkunnu, a media person and blogger, commended the late professor's simplicity and sincerity. "Muhammad was a great personality and gave intellectual leadership to the community," he added.
