Mubarak is being tried along with former Interior Minister Habib Al-Adli and his two sons Gamal and Alaa among others.
The Egyptian people are eagerly waiting to hear what Tantawi has to say and consider his testimony as crucial to the trial.
The judge had issued summons to new witnesses, including Tantawi and other high-ranking army officers. Tantawi’s testimony will be heard in closed doors.
On Monday, the court will listen to the testimony of Lt. Gen. Sami Anan and on Tuesday they will hear former Deputy President Omar Suleiman.
Many Egyptian people are calling for the trial to end as soon as possible and are urging all to accept the ruling of the court so Egyptians can get on with their lives.
The Egyptian people see the trial of the former president as one of the main gains of the revolution. They see it as a message to the next person in power that no one is above law, and corruption will be wiped out.
