More than 3,000 border guards have now been imprisoned for the revolt that erupted at the forces’ headquarters in Dhaka and then spread across the country. Fifty-seven army officers were among those killed.
The court sentenced 20 guards to seven years’ imprisonment Monday. The others received sentences of four months to six years. Five were acquitted.
Several special courts are dealing with mutiny charges for members of the Bangladesh Border Guard, previously called the Bangladesh Rifles. Those accused of murder and arson are being tried separately in a civilian court.
