A former student of International Indian School-Jeddah, Khan, now teaching at Jeddah's Al-Waha International School, is the sixth MA English gold medalist of IGNOU Saudi Arabia, which became operational as IGNOU's overseas center seven years ago.
IGNOU Saudi Arabia's gold medalists include Sabitha Rahim (2007), Sajida Fakhri (2008), Juveriya Hashmi (2009), Shahmida Mohammed (2010) and Alia Hamid Ali (2011), all women.
Fazilath was among five gold medalists among international students honored at the convocation. More than 110,000 students across India and abroad were conferred their degrees at the convocation. They included three Ph.D.s, 23,780 Bachelor's, 12,482 Master's, 29,269 diplomas and 46,364 certificates.
“This achievement was possible because of hard work and the cooperation and encouragement from the faculty members from IGNOU-Saudi Arabia,” Fazilath said. IGNOU Saudi Arabia’s Shahnaz Patel attributed its successful track record to the support from the international division of IGNOU New Delhi and the Indian diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia.
IGNOU Saudi Arabia students have so far received 10 gold medals — six of them consecutively for MA in English, two for BA and one for postgraduate diploma in financial management.
The local center has also received appreciation award as well as a gold medal for excelling as the best international center among 40 centers worldwide.
