Ahmad Fauzy Chusny of the consulate’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department said the rumor, which is believed to have originated from Indonesia, falsely reported that Indonesian workers wishing to be repatriated needed to visit the mission and obtain a flight ticket home within a limited period.
“Eighty percent of the people gathering outside the consulate were mainly housemaids from all over the city. As of Saturday the consulate, with cooperation from the Saudi authorities and the passport department was able to process the papers of approximately 313 people,” said Chusny.
“At the moment, there are no workers staying outside of the consulate as they were transferred to the Haj Terminal to process their documents and get them ready to leave the country.”
On the recruitment stalemate, Chusny said no new work visas for housemaids from Indonesia are being issued nor have any new domestic workers arrived as the standoff is still continuing.
