Of 733 people who responded to the survey conducted by the municipality, 574, or 78.3 percent, said they were not happy at all about the decoration and lighting of the main streets for the occasion. While 70 people said they were completely satisfied, 89 others said they were satisfied to some extent.
The municipality also asked the residents to use its Internet site to submit proposals for the development of the city's seafront.
The municipality said many residents asked for providing more toilets on the Corniche in view of the increasing number of visitors. They suggested that these toilets be regularly cleaned and maintained. They also said the municipality could charge a nominal fee for the use of toilets to help finance the maintenance and cleaning costs.
The municipality further said a number of residents called for banning horses, motorbikes and peddlers from the seafront in order to keep the place clean and safe.
It said one resident suggested to provide power outlets at certain fees for people to recharge their mobile phones or use computers and TV sets.
According to the municipality, one of the proposals it received was to employ about 100 young Saudis to report visitors who throw garbage at random or park their cars in wrong places.
It said many residents asked for paying more attention to the southern Corniche.
