According to rumors circulated on websites and cell phones, a Toyota Camry was being driven around carrying explosives.
“The vehicle’s owner had reported his car stolen to police. Police investigators were on the lookout for it, and it was found abandoned north of the city carrying switched license plates and is currently impounded,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
Al-Juaid said reports of the car carrying explosives were false.
“Investigators found no explosives in the car. The vehicle appears to have been parked for around three days. Inside the vehicle investigators uncovered the car’s original license plates stashed behind a suitcase, which was holding around SR49,000 in cash,” said Al-Juaid.
