It is only recently during the first half of 2011, did scientists and researchers start associating cellular radiation emissions with malignant brain tumors. Three months ago, The New York Times (Wed, June 1st, 2011) wrote about the ongoing “…Debate Over the Risk Cell phone Radiation.” While the Wireless Association and cancer organizations in the US have dismissed the carcinogenic effects of cell phones’ nonionizing radiation on cells and their DNA, a World Health Organization (W.H.O.) panel of 31 scientists from 14 countries finally broke their silence, pointing their fingers at such radiation as “possibly carcinogenic,” similar to pesticides (DDT), car exhaust and industrial chemicals.
In epidemiological studies, glioma, a rare type of brain tumor, has been associated with mobile phone radiation. A recent study effectuated by the American Medical Association suggested that “the weak radio frequency signals from cellular phones have a measurable effect on the brain” and “less than an hour of cell phone use can speed up brain activity in the area closest to the phone antenna.” Without breaking chemical bonds, nonionizing radiation can trigger “the formation of free radicals or an inflammatory response.”
In 2008, we have seen the passing away of a renowned public figure, Senator Ted Kennedy, due to malignant brain tumor. It is speculated that the growth was related to long hours of exposure to wireless radiation. He went through radio-therapy and more, but nothing helped; it was too late. Because of his job demands, he spent endless hours with his handset stuck to his ear. These types of tumors have become more common in the last couple of years.
More and more conscionable scientists and neurosurgeons are pointing toward the abuse of this little device that produces “destructive” emissions, resulting in brain, neck and head tumors in adult as well as behavioral disorders in children. A Swedish cancer expert found that individuals who used mobiles extensively and frequently for more than ten years had twice the risk of developing brain cancer.
A recent study indicated that children who frequently used mobile phones were more likely to develop behavioral disorders. Mothers’ extensive use during pregnancy also increases the probability in their fetuses. Other studies have shown that nonionizing radiation can cause sperm death or damage, resulting in infertility due to users’ carrying mobiles close to sensitive areas in the body.
Award-winning neurosurgeon and cancer expert, Dr. Yini Khurana, has strong views on the effects of mobile phone radiation on the brain. He is warning governments against the heavy use of cellular phones. He asserted that “there is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone usage and certain brain tumors.” He believes that “malignant brain tumors and associated death rate will be observed to rise globally within a decade.” It is important for the reader to note that, according to Dr. Khurana, cancerous brain tumors are “a life-ending diagnosis.” As usual, the wireless industry as well as governments dismissed his studies and alert, relying on their own conflicting findings.
French and German governments have issued warnings against the extensive use of cell phones, especially for children. The European Environment Agency is striving to reduce radiation exposures. It will be quite a challenge to have the public quit the habit of cell phones cold turkey.
I confess I will find it hard to give it up, but I shall discuss ways to protect our health and brain. It is of paramount importance to minimize radiation exposure to neurons, body cells, and other systems and organs.

Cancer takes years to develop and only surfaces when it is almost too late. Your mobile may seem like your best friend today, but tomorrow it may become your lethal enemy. Your best friend may silently turn against you. According to Dr. Khurana, radiation from cell phones can disrupt the activity of neurons, nerve cells.
The debate will continue until cell phone’s nonionizing radiation is implicated as a real health hazard or vindicated. However until then, we should take the proper measures to protect ourselves from dangerous materials and emissions; whether they come from cellular phones, microwave ovens, toxic artificial sweeteners (aspartame), additives, detergents, smoking, fast foods, pesticides, hormones or even drugs.
We should benefit from technology and NOT allow it to consume us!
