The chair will undertake and finance research on the holy book in the Kingdom and abroad and explain its miracles and blessings.
Rector of Imam University Sulaiman bin Abdullah Aba Al-Khail said the university, which already has 25 chairs, would establish the chair in the coming two weeks.
"The establishment of the chair reflects the keenness of the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince and Deputy Premier Prince Sultan, and Second Deputy Premier Prince Naif to raise awareness about the Qur'an," he said.
Aba Al-Khail said Imam University has a special section for the Qur'an and its subjects, considered one of the oldest departments in the Saudi universities.
"The university also has the Prince Salman Chair for Qur'anic Studies and the Institute of Scientific Miracles in the Qur'an and Sunna," he said.
The rector said the King Abdul Aziz Chair on the Holy Qur'an would focus on studies and applied research related to the holy book, provide specialized scientific consultancy on matters relating to the Qur'an and organize seminars and conferences inside the Kingdom and abroad.
He said the chair will also publish encyclopedias and lexicons on the Qur'an and its meaning.
