"The contracts in Jeddah worth SR1.1 billion include the designing and building of a mega warehouse aimed at serving the Western Province and the designing and construction of the strategic Jeddah Reservoir," Loay Musallam, chief executive officer, NWC, told Arab News.
Contracts in Riyadh to be awarded are worth SR1.8 billion, according to Musallam. They include a new water treatment plant in Sa'ad area (lot 4), drilling of wells and pumps for Sa'ad area (lots 1 & 2) and the implementation of wastewater networks in the district of Al-Aziziah as well as lifting stations in Al-Massanea and Al-Yamamah districts of the capital city.
The projects will be funded by the Ministry of Finance and are in line with the government's call for the private sector to manage water networks and conserve water to ensure consistent supply to meet growing demand.
Among projects that are soon to be completed, the CEO said, there will be six wastewater projects that will be completed in Riyadh this quarter through the second quarter of 2012 totally valued at SR84.7 million.
"One of these projects is the wastewater network for the remaining parts of Al-Nazeem district, which is worth SR84.7 million," Musallam said.
On the water side, Riyadh is expected to be getting a total of 18 projects during the same mentioned timeframe with a total value of SR574.3 million.
"One of these projects is the first and second phases of the contracted work for the water network in Riyadh worth SR216.1 million and is slated for completion by the first quarter of 2012," he added.
