The pair disappeared before the transplant operation, Al-Madinah newspaper reported Tuesday, quoting Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid. He said the Saudi family posted an advertisement on the Internet seeking a kidney for one of its members. The family offered SR500,000 to the donor.
Al-Juaid said two young Yemeni brothers responded and came from Riyadh to Jeddah, where the family accommodated them in a furnished apartment near the hospital where the operation was to take place.
The family paid them SR100,000 as advance and agreed to pay the remaining amount after the operation. “The two brothers disappeared after that. The sick man's son informed the police, who launched a search and caught the duo,” Al-Juaid said. He said the amount was found in their possession. They were handed over to the concerned authorities for investigations prior to their trial.
